In just three days, DOGS gained over 4 million users. Why is this airdrop project for Telegram users so popular?
Overnight, a project called DOGS exploded in popularity due to its airdrop to Telegram users.
According to the information, the DOGS Community was created on July 4th and released its first message on July 9th. In just two days, it surpassed one million users.
The DOGS Telegram channel provides a detailed introduction: This dog, named Spotty, is the project‘s mascot. The team stated at the end of the message: “Why choose DOGS? This is not just another meme coin. It is the meme coin best suited for Telegram, embodying the spirit and culture of a vibrant community. Bringing Spotty’s legacy into the cryptocurrency world, we aim to create something fun, community-driven, and unique.”
The character Spotty was inspired by the mascot created by TONs founder, Pavel Durov. Some media claim that DOGS was launched by the creator Blum with the support of Notcoin. Currently, points can be earned, which should be convertible to tokens later.
Users only need to open the DOGS Mini APP, and the bot will automatically analyze their Telegram account. The older and more active the account, the more points it earns. Telegram Premium accounts can also earn extra points. Additionally, inviting friends to join will grant extra points.
The specific factors and weights for the point calculation have not been disclosed. However, according to tests, an account registered for one year can earn around 800 points, while an account registered for 4 to 5 years can earn about 3,000 points.
As of now, Telegram has about 900 million monthly active users. Telegram is widely used for communication and information sharing within the cryptocurrency and blockchain communities. Many cryptocurrency projects, exchanges, and blockchain developers use Telegram channels and groups to make announcements, engage with the community, and provide technical support. As an important communication platform for the blockchain and crypto community, Telegram has a large number of blockchain industry users.
Backed by Telegram, the TON chain is seen as having potential for mass adoption. Before DOGS, a series of mini-games represented by Notcoin, such as Hamster Kombat and Citizen, attracted a large number of users in a short time due to their simplicity, low entry barrier, and social interactivity. Similarly built on Telegram and TON, it is no surprise that DOGS can attract a massive user base.
In addition to its inherent advantages (built on Telegram and TON), DOGS benefits from several other factors that have helped it gain significant traffic in a short time.
Firstly, the external environment's contradictions. The conflict between VCs and individual investors over project tokens remains. VCs, having participated in early investments, obtain a large number of low-cost tokens, squeezing the profit margins for investors in the secondary market. In contrast, MEME tokens are considered more fairly distributed. As a result, the MEME sector has gained popularity, with this sentiment extending from the secondary market to the primary market.
Secondly, the low participation threshold. For users, there are no time costs or sunk costs. The rules for the DOGS airdrop are simple. Users only need to open the Mini APP to earn “rewards,” an incentive almost everyone can obtain. Additionally, inviting other users offers extra rewards. This easily creates a network effect under these circumstances.
