Michaël van de Poppe, one of the well-known analysts of cryptocurrency markets, shared a very sincere statement with investors in his latest video published on his YouTube channel.

Van de Poppe said that he directed all his investments to altcoins in the summer of 2024, but this strategy did not work as he expected and his portfolio is now down 60%:

“I moved my entire portfolio to altcoins in the summer of 2024. This move was a bit premature. My portfolio is currently down about 60%. My $110k investment is now worth $36.5k.”

Recalling that he had experienced similar losses in previous cycles, Van de Poppe claimed that his portfolio fell by 80% in the previous bear market, but then rose by 10,000%.

Van de Poppe stated that despite the losses he experienced, he developed new strategies and made some changes to rebalance his portfolio. He explained that he sold his $20,000 position in the ENS token and directed this capital to different altcoins.

The analyst stated that he will use the portfolio rebalancing model in monthly or quarterly periods in his investment strategy and believes that he can respond to market volatility more effectively in this way.

Van de Poppe said that the value losses experienced in altcoins are not only specific to crypto, and that macroeconomic developments are also effective in these declines, and that developments such as the weakening of the Chinese yuan (renminbi) against the dollar increase the pressure on risky assets.

He also said that current market interest is at its lowest levels in the last three years, describing this as a “clear indicator of a bear market”:

“Interest in crypto has fallen to August 2023 levels. This means the lowest interest in the last 2.5 years.”

Although the current picture is bleak, Van de Poppe argued that this environment also presents great opportunities. The analyst said he plans to rebuild a strong portfolio by maintaining his strategy over the next 6 to 12 months.
