FIFA has confirmed that its FIFA Collect digital collectibles platform will migrate to the EVM-compatible FIFA Blockchain on May 20.

The upgrade is expected to improve scalability and transaction performance, according to FIFAs official migration FAQ. FIFA said the transition will include a 10-hour platform outage, during which trading and wallet access will be temporarily unavailable.

Asset Transfers and User Action

All user assets will be automatically moved to the new EVM blockchain once the migration is complete. However, FIFA warned that any off-platform collectibles not re-imported by May 20 will become ineligible for trading.

USDC balances will remain withdrawable, but can no longer be spent on FIFA Collect after the migration. Listings created prior to the transition will carry over automatically, unless users choose to remove them manually

End of Algorand Wallet Support

The switch marks FIFAs departure from Algorand wallet infrastructure. Following the upgrade, FIFA Collect will only support Ethereum-compatible wallets, including MetaMask and WalletConnect integrations.

Support for Algorand-native wallets like Pera and Defly will be discontinued after the migration date. FIFA emphasized that no immediate user action is required, and full migration instructions will be shared ahead of time.

FIFA Exploring a Digital Token

FIFAs blockchain overhaul coincides with growing signals of a potential digital token initiative.

Speaking at the White House Crypto Summit in March, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the organization is exploring the launch of a “FIFA coin.”

Infantino said the token would likely be developed in partnership with U.S. firms and designed to engage FIFAs global fanbase. “FIFA is very, very interested in developing a FIFA coin, to do it from here, from America,” Infantino said.
