  • Robinhood developing its own Layer-2 chain for tokenized assets

Robinhood has entered a new phase of crypto expansion with the launch of tokenized stock trading and crypto derivatives. European users can now access over 200 U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs as tokens on the Arbitrum Layer-2 blockchain. The firm also introduced perpetual futures and plans to roll out its own Layer-2 network soon.

Tokenized Stocks and Layer-2 Plans

Robinhood users in the European Union can now trade U.S. stocks and ETFs 24/7 via blockchain-based tokens. These assets are issued on Arbitrum and offer a familiar trading experience, with zero commissions and minimal fees. The move aims to simplify access and lower costs for European investors.

To support tokenized real-world assets, Robinhood is developing its own Ethereum-compatible Layer-2 blockchain. The custom network will prioritize self-custody, fast settlement, and cross-chain bridging. The company plans to issue tokenized stocks on this new infrastructure once live.

Users will be able to manage assets through Robinhoods wallet or app, without handling private keys. Token holders will also receive dividend payouts directly on-platform. The product aims to bring a unified crypto and traditional finance experience to everyday investors.

Crypto Futures and Staking Expansion

Robinhood also launched crypto perpetual futures for European customers this week. These instruments allow 3x leveraged trading without fixed expiration dates and will be available through Bitstamp. Robinhood recently acquired Bitstamp for $200 million to secure the exchange infrastructure and licensing.

In the United States, Robinhood introduced crypto staking for Ethereum and Solana holders. U.S. customers can now earn passive income by staking assets directly through the Robinhood app. This feature expands the platforms earning tools while keeping the experience simple and regulated.

Additionally, Robinhood is offering a 1% bonus on crypto deposits for a limited time. Users can double that bonus to 2% if platform-wide deposits reach $500 million. The company also teased a crypto cash-back credit card launching later this year.

Unified Investment and Institutional Strategy

Robinhood aims to compete directly with top crypto exchanges by combining traditional assets and Web3 tools. It joins firms like Kraken and Bybit in offering tokenized stocks, but stands out by building its own infrastructure. The tokenized asset market is projected to grow significantly, and Robinhood is positioning early.

The firm continues to secure licenses across Europe under the MiCA framework, expanding its reach to over 30 countries. Robinhood has also introduced AI tools, like Cortex, to assist users in analyzing markets and trends. The long-term strategy focuses on making crypto accessible while integrating it with everyday financial tools.
