Art Blocks, the leading generative art NFT platform, unveiled its new PostParams feature last week, enabling artists and collectors to dynamically transform their collections over time.
While some collectors have raised doubts about the new feature, Art Blocks founder Erick Calderon, who goes by Snowfro, clarified that PostParams simply offer a new mechanism for artists and collectors to express themselves on-chain.
PostParams enable several customization options, allowing the collector or artist to modify pre-specified properties of the artwork. The feature can be applied across a number of properties in the collections, from “changing a color palette to completely modifying the visual output of the artwork and everything in between.”
“I love that artists can evolve their collections over time (I like surprises). I hate that collectors can customize their piece (they tend to optimize for what they think is valuable)....PostParams feels a bit like cheating. It can be a useful tool for artists, but I dont see why collectors should be able to alter the artwork,” said a notable collector known as Rodo.
Rodo conceded that hes never been a fan of collector-curated collections, but cited concerns over collectors simply changing their outputs to the most rare or desirable traits in a collection, using the Pipe Chromie Squiggle trait as an example.
Snowfro told The Defiant that the new functionality does not affect any existing projects on Art Blocks and that he sees PostParams as an extension of Async Arts 1-of-1 designs, but applied across an entire generative collection.
“PostParams is building massive online multiplayer functionality into the artistic expression that we support on Art Blocks, and I assure you some absolutely mind-blowing contemporary art and experiences will be created using this tech, things we can't even think of today,” he said.
“The ability for an artist to add implementations that might encourage collectors to continue to interact with an artwork over time is really interesting to me...Like, why on earth would we NOT allow an artist to express themselves that way? Especially if we're able to do it in a way that not only upholds our passion for on-chain expression, but also elegantly tracks the provenance of these interactions over time,” Snowfro added.
PostParams will debut with an upcoming mint called DDUST by Jiwa.
Art Blocks NFTs
While the NFT market has struggled in 2025, some collections that are reminiscent of the 2020-2022 NFT bull run continue to maintain premium prices.
Fidenza by Tyler Hobbs - OpenSea
Chromie Squiggles, Snowfros debut collection on the platform and part of the Art Blocks genesis series, still command a 4 ETH ($10,000) price floor, while Fidenza by Tyler Hobbs, perhaps the most notable Art Blocks collection, still trades at a 30 ETH ($75,000) floor price.
