Germany annual CPI inflation rises to 2.9% in April vs. 3% expected
Inflation in Germany, as measured by the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 2.9% (preliminary estimate) in April from 2.7% in March. This print came in below the market expectation of 3%. On a monthly basis, the CPI was up 0.6%, as anticipated.
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, the European Central Banks (ECB) preferred gauge of inflation, increased 2.9% on a yearly basis in April following the 2.8% rise recorded in March.
Market reaction
These data failed to trigger a noticeable market reaction. At the time of press, EUR/USD was trading at 1.1705, down 0.05% on a daily basis.
