Bakkt Holdings, Inc, a fintech startup that provides crypto solutions, established a strategic agreement with Global Payments Inc, a US firm that provides payment technology and services to merchants, issuers, and consumers, on Monday, to increase cryptocurrency use cases.
As a result of the strategic relationship, Global Payments will be able to offer cryptocurrency redemption to its consumers. Global Payments will also be able to expand its banking-as-a-service bankcard options to include consumer access to cryptocurrencies, as well as leverage its issuing technology to integrate crypto into its virtual, debit, credit, and prepaid solutions as a result of the agreement. Furthermore, Bakkt will work with Global Payments to accept transnational merchant payments.
The latest breakthrough is part of Bakkt's ongoing attempts to increase crypto usage inside the payment ecosystem.
Bakkt teamed with American Bank last month to enable the bank's customers to buy, sell, and keep Bitcoin and Ethereum. Bakkt recently teamed with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc, a US hotel operator based in New Jersey, to allow the hotel's rewards members to utilize their points with Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Bakkt teamed with Google last October to bring digital assets to millions of consumers. Google was able to broaden the reach and use of digital assets as a result of the relationship, in order to fulfill the rapidly rising consumer demand and preferences.
Bakkt also teamed with MasterCard late last year to let thousands of banks and merchants in the United States to use its payments network to provide a wide range of crypto products and services. As a result, consumers can spend their crypto rewards at retailers on MasterCard's network. They can also keep, acquire, and trade digital assets using Bakkt's digital asset platform and custodial wallets.
Such collaborations allow worldwide consumers to benefit from improved access to digital asset services.
