Review of the 13 Finalist Projects at ETH Global Paris

ETHGlobal Hackathon is dedicated to shaping a decentralized future for the global community of developers, designers, creators, and innovators. Its mission is to foster creativity and collaboration within the Ethereum ecosystem, bringing together builders from all over the world.

On July 23rd, the ETHGlobal Paris Hackathon officially concluded, with a total of 1400 attendees and 965 hackers participating, presenting 321 projects from 67 countries. After rigorous evaluation, 13 projects have made it to the final round, covering various domains such as zero-knowledge proofs, social, cross-chain, DeFi, and DAO.

These finalist projects will share a total prize pool of $475,000 provided by 39 organizations, including Metamask, Polygon, Worldcoin, Filecoin, MakerDAO, 1inch, and others.

The list of projects that made it to the finals is as follows:

ZK Microphone

ZK Microphone aims to utilize ZK-SNARK, specific hardware, corresponding editing software, and IPFS to protect user privacy and verify the authenticity of audio, from recording and editing to storage. In the era of artificial intelligence development, deepfakes in audio can lead to significant negative consequences. The emergence of ZK Microphone is designed to address this issue.

GLSwaps

GLSwaps aims to empower Uniswap with leveraged trading functionality. Through a browser extension plugin, GLSwaps enables users to engage in various leveraged trades on GMX using Uniswap's frontend. All trade instructions are submitted on Uniswap's frontend, but the actual execution takes place on the GMX platform. For tokens supported by both Uniswap and dYdX, GLSwaps allows users to go long or short with leverage of up to 50x, thereby enhancing capital efficiency.

TwitterCampaign

Twitter Campaigns is an on-chain DAO tool that supports artificial intelligence and is designed to create smart contract-based Twitter marketing campaigns, aiming to improve the current level of DAO tools and social proof services.

The objectives of Twitter Campaigns are twofold: firstly, to enable DAO organizations or individuals to promote social media posts through tokenized incentives; and secondly, to leverage FOMO psychology and social proof to encourage more non-cryptocurrency professionals to participate in these incentives.

TyphoonCashX

TyphoonCashX is an anonymous bridging protocol that utilizes zero-knowledge technology to create a privacy layer through cross-chain mixers, enabling the anonymous bridging of any ERC20 native token on any EVM-compatible chain.

The protocol employs Sismo technology to generate off-chain membership proofs for depositor groups, ensuring eligibility to claim funds on another chain after depositing. Additionally, it leverages the Hyperlane protocol to efficiently broadcast messages from the arrival chain to all other chains, preventing various forms of attacks.

TyphoonCashX extends the vision of the renowned Tornado Cash protocol.

Kinetex Light Clients

Kinetex plans to soon launch a decentralized cross-chain public resolution solution aimed at optimizing transaction gas costs and enhancing security. The Kinetex on-chain light client is designed to be deployed on any EVM network and can store the state of the supporting network.

The approach proposed by the Kinetex team involves reimagining the flow of liquidity. They suggest shifting control to decentralized markets rather than relying on vulnerable controlled liquidity pools. In this market, users create swap orders, and professional resolvers take on the risk management of the swaps while charging a commission.

Kinetex Light Client enables peer-to-peer transactions between users and resolvers through transaction batch processing, eliminating the need to wait for or rely on validators, thus optimizing gas costs.

Harpos

Harpos is a unique social network that allows users to choose complete anonymity through the implementation of zero-knowledge proofs enabled by Sismo and XMTP messaging protocol.

Upon joining the platform, users log in through Sismo's SSO and create a ZK proof to demonstrate the amount of USD stablecoins they possess. Additionally, they have the option to generate another ZK proof to showcase their number of Twitter followers as proof of their influence.

Bubbles

Bubbles is a voice chat application designed for on-chain communities. It creates token-gated rooms based on token ownership, POAP declarations, group affiliations, etc. The platform integrates four key components:

• Ethereum Login: Users can connect their Ethereum wallets. By importing social profiles from ENS, Farcaster, Lens, etc., users can maintain their online identity consistently across the platform.

• Daily.co: The toolkit and infrastructure provide a high-quality communication environment.

• Airstack: Simplifying data integration, Airstack acts as a blockchain data indexer, aggregating information from various sources, enabling token-gated functionalities through information collection.

• Sismo: Serves as a sovereign identity aggregator and encrypted native single sign-on (SSO) solution.

Stake Garden

Cypher Deposit introduces a private

cryptocurrency

withdrawal solution, offering individuals, businesses, and high-net-worth individuals a seamless and secure way to conduct anonymous transfers, ensuring the privacy of their financial data and transaction details.

The core of this solution lies in leveraging advanced ZKBOB (Zero-Knowledge Balance Obfuscation) technology to maintain the privacy and off-chain nature of transaction details. This ensures the confidentiality of users' financial activities, safeguarding them from third-party tracking and surveillance. By integrating liquidity pools through a Software Development Kit (SDK), Cypher Deposit enables fast and direct deposits and withdrawals, further enhancing the convenience and efficiency of the withdrawal process.

Additionally, Cypher Deposit hosts a private HOPR container on Filecoin Bacalhau, providing secure access to the Optimism blockchain.

Bob the Solver

Bob the Solver aims to serve as an “intent”-based transaction infrastructure, integrated into wallets and decentralized applications. The project originates from a paradigm shift in the realm of account abstraction, with a core focus on not emphasizing the precise transaction process but rather the user's ultimate “intent.”

Essentially, “intent” represents the desired outcome, while “transactions” outline the precise steps required to execute the trade. Consider an example where a user intends to purchase an NFT on the Polygon network. The intent is straightforward, but the exact transactions may involve token swaps, cross-network bridging, and specific purchase executions – all complex and time-consuming tasks that require in-depth blockchain knowledge.

Recognizing that users often have intents rather than exact transaction details, the “Bob the Solver” project aims to simplify the transaction process.

VoiceSense

VoiceSence aims to promote inclusivity in web3 by reducing barriers for people to transact on the blockchain. Its objectives are:

• Enable users with visual impairments or reading difficulties to conduct transactions on web3 using voice as an input mechanism.

• Allow users to record inputs in their native language, eliminating the need to write in unfamiliar languages.
