The New Fed Chair Releases Interest Rate Forecast for December! Will He Continue to Cut Interest Rates If He Becomes President?

As the FED counts the days to announce its December interest rate decision, the last interest rate decision of 2025, interest rate forecasts continue to arrive.

The latest prediction at this point came from Hassett, the White House National Economic Council Director who has been mentioned as the next Fed Chair.

Speaking to Fox News, Kevin Hassett said that the Fed should cut interest rates by 25 basis points in the decision it will announce next week.

Hassett, who stated that he expects a 25 basis point cut next week, reminded that recent statements made by FED administrators also signaled easing.

“I think we should cut rates, and I think we probably will. It seems much more clear that the Fed members are leaning towards a rate cut now.”

Kevin Hassett responded cautiously to the question of how many interest rate cuts he might implement if he became Fed chair. He emphasized that the chairs role is to be “very data-sensitive” and carefully assess the impact of interest rates on inflation and employment, but declined to provide a specific figure.

Finally, speaking about speculation about his candidacy for the Fed chair, Hassett said, “The president has several candidates he‘s considering… I’m honored to be on the same list as some wonderful people.”

US President Donald Trump, who has frequently praised Hassett and hinted at his candidacy in recent days, announced that he had made his decision for the FED chairmanship and would announce the name at the beginning of 2026.

Trump also said at a White House event on Tuesday, “I think there‘s a potential Fed chair candidate here. All I can tell you is he’s a respected person.”
