Newcomer Developers in the World of Encryption Have Decreased by 58%, But Active Developers on New Chains Are Still Growing

According to the October developer report by Electric Capital, over the past year, many novice developers have chosen to leave, while experienced developers continue to contribute to

cryptocurrency

projects.

The report categorizes monthly active developers into three groups:

  • Novice (Newcomer): Developers with less than 1 year of experience in the cryptocurrency field.

  • Experienced Developers (Emerging Developer): Developers with 1 to 2 years of experience in the cryptocurrency field.

  • Established Developers: Developers with over 2 years of experience in the cryptocurrency field.

The data shows that over the past year, novice developers decreased by 58%, while experienced developers increased by 11%, and established developers increased by 5%. This indicates a shift in the developer landscape in the cryptocurrency field, with experienced developers continuing to contribute while the number of novice developers gradually decreases.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the trends in the developer community are as follows:

  • Novice developers decreased by 58%, which is equivalent to a reduction of 8,300 developers.

  • Emerging developers increased by 11%, adding 500 new developers to their ranks.

  • Established developers saw a 5% growth, with an additional 400 developers joining their category.

Despite an overall decrease in the number of cryptocurrency developers and a decline in new entrants to the industry since October 2022, some ecosystems have seen an increase in the number of active developers. Here are a few of the projects with over 70 developers and a positive annual growth rate:

  • Aztec Protocol: With a yearly growth rate of 168%, it currently has 76 monthly active developers.

  • Celestia: Showing a yearly growth rate of 145%, it now has 81 monthly active developers.

  • Ripple: Experiencing an 18% annual growth rate, it has 172 monthly active developers.

  • TON: With an annual growth rate of 8%, it has 126 monthly active developers.

  • zkSync: Showing a 6% annual growth rate, it boasts 229 monthly active developers.

  • Starknet: With a 4% annual growth rate, it currently has 517 monthly active developers.
