Stake.com Has Been Hacked for $25.6 Million on Both the Binance Smart Chain (Bsc) and Polygon Networks, Bringing the Total Amount Stolen to over $41 Million
On September 4th, PeckShield detected a suspected hacker attack on the
cryptocurrency
gambling platform Stake.com. An address, 0x3130662aece32f05753d00a7b95c0444150bcd3c, extracted 6,001 ETH from an address labeled as Stake.com.According to blockchain analyst ZachXBT, the preliminary estimate of losses in this incident is approximately $15.7 million.
Subsequently, MistTrack released more detailed information about the Stake.com hack. The stolen assets from Stake.com include 6,001 ETH, 3.9 million USDT, 1.1 million USDC, and nearly 900,000 DAI. Among these, USDT, USDC, and DAI have all been converted into ETH. All the stolen funds, approximately 9,615.29 ETH, are currently stored in four different addresses.
Cos, the founder of SlowMist, has stated that following the incident, Stake.com did not suspend its services, and funds continued to enter its hot wallet. The cause of this incident is likely related to issues with the private key, but it's not certain whether the private key was stolen or if interfaces/services related to the private key were maliciously exploited.
In addition to the Ethereum wallet being compromised, Stake.com's hot wallets on both the Polygon and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) networks were also targeted. According to ZachXBT's tracking report, the stolen funds from Stake.com on BSC and Polygon have reached $25.6 million. This brings the total amount stolen from the platform to over $41 million.
Three hours after the theft incident occurred, Stake.com's official response acknowledged that the ETH and BSC hot wallets had been compromised, while the assets on other chains remained secure. Additionally, they reopened user deposits and withdrawals five hours after the incident.
The official statement did not provide further information regarding the handling of the stolen funds, nor did it offer additional details on the reimbursement of assets for users who had deposited funds during the period of the theft.
