A new step has been taken towards cross-chain identity management in the Ethereum ecosystem. The Ethereum community has proposed a new standard called ERC-8092, which aims to link accounts on different blockchains in a verifiable manner.
Currently in draft form, ERC-8092 allows two different blockchain accounts to publicly define, verify, and, if necessary, revoke their relationship through cryptographic signatures. In this respect, the proposal aims to reduce the complexities experienced by users and applications in managing multiple addresses.
Key use cases under the standard include sub-account relationships, delegation of authority, and the unification of reputation under a single identity. This makes it possible to link multiple wallets under a primary address, grant representation authority to specific accounts, or consolidate activities across different chains under a single identity profile.
ERC-8092 also supports cross-chain interoperability thanks to its compatibility with EIP-7930. This feature aims to enable accounts on different blockchain networks to connect under a common identity standard.
The proposal describes ERC-8092 as “a new standard for connecting blockchain accounts across chains and platforms,” and developers state that this structure could form a fundamental infrastructure for decentralized identity solutions and Web3 applications in the long term. The draft is expected to be shaped by community feedback in later stages.
