CME Highlights XRP as One of the Top-Traded Crypto Asset

Since launching on May 19, XRP and Micro XRP futures have rapidly gained traction among institutional and retail traders, according to CME Group.

The exchange reports that XRP is now one of the most watched crypto assets on its platform, with notable interest in regulated tools to gain exposure to digital assets.

The XRP futures contracts, which are cash-settled and offered in two sizes, allow market participants to manage price risk or speculate on XRPs movement without directly holding the asset. This structure eliminates the need for a wallet and provides accessibility for both large institutions and individual traders.

CME data shows a strong start for the new derivatives product. In the first month alone, over 24,600 contracts were traded, generating more than $542.8 million in notional volume. Importantly, 45% of this volume came from outside the U.S., reflecting XRPs broad global appeal.

On launch day, the market recorded $19.3 million in volume across 15 institutional firms and four major retail platforms. Participants included ETF issuers and active traders, highlighting the widespread demand for XRP exposure through regulated instruments.

Open interest (OI) currently stands at $70.5 million, signaling continued market engagement and confidence in the contract‘s utility. As traders seek efficient ways to hedge risk or gain directional exposure to XRP, CME’s offering appears to fill a critical gap in crypto futures infrastructure.

The success of XRP futures adds momentum to CME‘s broader crypto strategy and reinforces XRP’s relevance among both institutional and retail investors seeking reliable trading products.
